Walnut and Curly Maple Chess Set

Inspired by Shawn Boyd’s chess set, I wanted to make a mid-century modern set that felt more like a statement piece than anything else. Not only can it be used to challenge others in a game of chess, it also functions as a piece of decor. The pieces themselves are larger than typical pieces, giving them a comfortable and satisfying weight in your hand. I later made a storage box for the board to sit into and the pieces to be laid in, each piece with its own space. It is a long process to make, but certainly worth it!
